What is Safe Sanctuaries?
General Conference 2004 mandated that all Annual Conferences of the UMC will have policies written to ensure Safe Sanctuary environments to protect the vulnerable and prevent abuse. Safe Sanctuaries encompasses the efforts made to reduce the risk of abuse to children and youth and to protect the adult workers, paid or volunteer, who interact with those children and youth in any church activity on site or away from the church building. The level of Safe Sanctuary care must be tailored to and provided by each individual local church. Being known as a Safe Sanctuaries church indicates to persons entering your building that a level of care and protection is being provided in that local church. >>more
Background Screening Made Easy Instruction Packet

In order to help make the process of completing background checks of church volunteers and church employees easier, this instruction packet has been prepared for the churches of the NCNY Conference. It walks you through the steps of setting up an account with Choice Point through their ScreenNow website. Training

Safe Sanctuaries Training - Rome: First UMC

A vital training for your church's ministry, Safe Sanctuaries, will take place 10 a.m to Noon, Sept. 6, at Rome: First UMC, 400 North George Street, Rome.

Safe Sanctuaries is aimed at training churches to reduce the risk of abuse in the church, especially for children, youth and vulnerable adults. If your church has not attended this training yet, it is necessary that you do so. Please don't delay. Mobilize your members, especially church leaders and those working with youth, children and vulnerable adults to take part.
