What is CCYM?

First of all, CCYM stands for the Conference Council on Youth Ministry.

We minister to the youth who are involved in our local churches, and help build their faith by putting on conference-wide youth rallies.

We help youth develop into leaders at all levels of the United Methodist Church:

  • our local church youth groups;
  • our conference boards and agencies;
  • our national and jurisdictional councils on youth ministry.

We educate youth on social and missional issues, and advocate for these issues on behalf of our youth.

We promote the Youth Service Fund

In other words, we help youth become real disciples of Jesus Christ!

Who's in Charge?!

  • Beth Our Fearless Leader
  • The Illustrious Order of CCYM Officers
  • In Charge?! Nobody's in charge around here!
  • The Invisible Pocket Monkeys!

Answer?! None of the above! Jesus Christ runs this show! But how do we know what Jesus wants us to do? We get our guidance from three sources:

  • The Bible
  • The Spirit that lives in each CCYM member
  • The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church

So, it's really important that we know the Bible, and that we keep our spirit alive by praying, worshipping, and acting in love each day.

But what about this discipline thing? Does it hurt?! The Book of Discipline is the United Methodist way of being disciples. It contains our Constitution (how we are structured and held accountable); our Theology (what we believe about God and how we know it); and our Social Principles (our conscientious stand on environmental, economic, political, global, and moral issues).

So, if you want to know where the church stands on an issue, you can look it up in this book. For instance, you can look up what a CCYM is supposed to do in ¶ 745! Everything we do on the CCYM should be true to the Bible, the Spirit, and the Discipline.

We also have by-laws, which are rules set up by the CCYM itself in order for us to decide things like who can become a member, what officers we will have, how a vote is taken, and who is allowed to ask "How do you feel?" at 7 o'clock in the morning!
